You
will need an Internet connection to play games on the Internet. For
best results, especially with dialup connections, your Internet connection
should be active before you start the game.
Start the game on your computer. Click MULTIPLAYER on the main menu
and then click PLAYER SETUP. Enter a name and pick a character, then
click BACK.
Click JOIN GAME. The tabs across the top of the window let you read
news, chat with players, and find games to join. Click the INTERNET
tab to see all the available Internet games. It can take a few moments
for the list to appear. If you only want to see a certain type of game
then you can click on the other tabs. For example, click DM to see just
the DeathMatch games, or SNATCH to see just the SNATCH games.
When choosing an Internet game it's important to look at the PING column,
which shows the PING times for each game server. PING times give a rough
idea of how responsive a game server is. They are affected by the geographic
location of the server, the type of server computer, the number of players,
your internet connection, and more. Lower PING times generally mean
better gameplay, but remember they're a rough measurement and constantly
changing, so you may not actually be able to tell the difference between,
for example, 50 and 100. You can sort the list of games according to
PING times by clicking on the PING column heading. |
