Postal Nation

Eternal Damnation Contest!
The Eternal Damnation crew have just launched their first competition featuring actual prizes, rather than mere honor and glory. Here's the backstory:

"You are in the small town of Hassleridge and wake to find the streets overrun by zombies. As you look around in awe a zombie spots you and closes in with some of his flaky friends.

"Describe how you would escape your fate by reaching the military outpost situated 10 miles away through a small town. You can raid shops, steal cars, use other survivors to help you escape, etc. But remember that there are a lot of zombies everywhere. It must be
original, realistic and exciting. Use your imagination.

Winners will receive either one of these prizes:
The Zombie Survival Guide

or

Book of the Dead: The Complete History of Zombie Cinema

Please visit this link for the rules and full details on how to enter!

Don't miss out. You won't see the ED crew giving away stuff like this often!

The Dude dBase!
Stefan Kudszus , our numero uno German POSTAL fan and publisher of The Dude Magazine recently wrote to us with some fascinating news regarding his latest project – a Dude Database! He writes:

Since last month I have been hard at work on a tool for POSTAL fans out there. It would be the largest Postal Game Offline Database including information about POSTAL, POSTAL Plus, POSTAL 2, etc.!

At this point, The Dude(n) (that's what it's called) includes:

- Autoupdate function (for program and module updates)

- Zip-Based compressed database

- Supports "Files", "HTML", "Text" and "URL". It's possible to put the original patches for POSTAL and POSTAL 2 into the package

- Multilingual (English and German are supported so far) - GUI and Database

I hope you like the idea behind "The Dude(n)". Now I'm working hard to fix the bugs, optimize some stuff and create a help file for everyone out there.

Thanks a lot for the POSTAL series, that makes so much fun to play! I haven't spent so much time to play and enjoy any other game.

Greetings from Germany
Stefan Kudszus
(Editor and The Dude Magazin Leader)
(The Dude(n) Main coder)

Soon thereafter, Stefan sent the following update: "A fter days of hard working, I've released "The Dude(n)" Version 1.10 RC1 today. The Setup package includes the program GUI only, but after installing it you can use the LiveUpdate function to update the database to the latest package."

Okay, here we go. If you want you can download the RC1 just click here. Congratulations, Stefan , you ARE the Dude!

Letters, Blogs & Sites From the Postal Nation
Juan from Germany writes:

My name is Juan Enrique Iranzo and I have loved PC games all my life! I knew of your game a long time ago, but back then my dad wouldn't even let me play games likes Doom on the PC. He said it was too violent, etc.

I finally found POSTAL, and immediately fell in love with it! I've been fucked mentally in school a million times by both teachers and students, and to do what the Postal Dude does has been one of my fantasies for a looong time! Your game makes it possible and I honestly feel great looking at a weeping, helpless person that I just shot... watching him bleed to death.... or giving him THE last shot... (best bind key ever). I tried POSTAL 2 which I also liked a lot, but it doesn't come near the original.

I am fully aware of reality, and I know that pissing on people or doing the stuff that happens in your game is not… appropriate, to say the least… even though I sometimes feel a lot like the Postal Dude.

Okay, I hope you got that part. I love your game(s), and I think you guys rock!!!! (Like in your game, when bystanders buy something: You RULE!)

But something that I don't understand is how come YOUR game is banned in 10 countries, it is THE MOST EVIL game EVER made, while games like CRIME CITY, GRAND THEFT AUTO, where the goal of the game is to become the head gangster master crime lord of a huge city, are sold like cookies with milk?!? What is the BIG difference between a game like POSTAL and GTA? That in POSTAL you just kill, and in GTA you actually kill as a Mafia member?

It wouldn't surprise me, if SENSELESS KILLING isn't allowed, but well-planned Mafia business is good! (Judging by the president of the US ... it makes sense to me in a fucked up sort of way... lol… I'm a person that believes that 9/11 was planned by the US government, so…)

I see some douche bag complained on your site about POSTAL being racist?! I'm a Spanish person, born in the US , living in Germany . I've been all over the world already and I have learned that it doesn't matter if a person is black or white, yellow or brown or striped! In your game, I defend myself mostly (I'm not the AMOK kinda guy, although that depends on my mood of course) and it doesn't matter to me if it's a black person, a cop or a female; if my life is threatened, I will defend it, and I will not stand there and think: "Aaww gee, a black male shooting me. Naaah, I won't shoot back. THAT would be racist. I could give two wet farts about the "looks" of the other person! Brown, White, Black – in the end we all bleed red!

So (lol), if you put black people in your game to shoot, you are being racist, but if you DON'T put black people in your game, you are being racist because you DONT put them in!

Such a big fuss over something oh so small, but of course killing "digital humans" is bad, but having a president that raises taxes to pay for his military bullcrap, who kills innocent REAL HUMANS is okay! Of course kids start shooting other kids in the US , and then they blame it on Rock music, or on the video games they played when it is society that fucks people up.

Sorry, this is getting WAAAY too long! I love you guys and your games! I think you people are the shit, the way that you've kept RWS alive for so long! Awesome! People talk about freedom of Speech, and then they sue you for making a GAME! I love it that you still exist! FUCK EVERYBODY! Freedom of the press, right, we just don't own a single one.

Must stop writing… awaiting POSTAL 3 with lots of enthusiasm!

Greetings from Germany
Your BIG BIG BIG FAN
Juan Enrique Iranzo

P.S. : One of my lifes goals is to get one of them Tshirts!!! Must have, must buy, must have!!!

VINCE RESPONDS: We get a lot of fan mail, and I answer all of them, but every now and then one stands out, like yours...

You're very fortunate to have traveled, your insights are interesting, and while I agree with your general sense of racism, and the fact that there are good and bad in all races, one thing I truly believe:

Loyalty is timeless, and so it can afford to be blind, but truth requires light. Maybe you've had a gun to your head, maybe you haven't. All that matters is who has their finger on the trigger.

RWS makes games to play for fun. Sure, one can take issue with our content, but we do not suggest or promote to immature people, or should I say we don't market to minors. What always amazes me is how so many people under 18 are more socially mature than people over 30.

Enjoy playing and enjoy your life, and let the bullshit politicians worry about the bullshit.

Life is neither fair nor free, but it's fuckin great being alive!

To Whom It May Concern,

The POSTAL games kick ass. I'm writing to find out when the next game is coming out. I'm a POSTAL junkie and I need a new fix. Please let me know because I'm going through withdrawl. Thanks.

THE GIMP RESPONDS: POSTAL 3 is already in development (in fact, if you visit the POSTAL News Bullets you'll find a link that leads to a page listing new jobs that are becoming available at RWS to get that monkey off your back and onto the front end of a shotgun). Right now, we need the POSTAL Faithful to simply keep up the Buzz. Hound the retailers, distributors and Microsoft to make sure that POSTAL 3 arrives on the XBox 360 before your legs start twitching and you get the cramps.

Shannon sent us not only her best, but a couple of cool pictures as well. Nothing works sartorially with a motorcycle like a POSTAL t-shirt, Shannon , no doubt. And you'll definitely want to check out Shannon 's site.

Mark Scherdel writes:

I'm sure you heard about the XBox live arcade games on the XBox 360. Have you planned/thought about bringing the original postal to xbla?
That would be awesome. :-)

MIKEJ RESPONDS: Very good, good idea! If we could remake the characters into nicer looking 3d models I think it would work GREAT!

And that's a wrap for this issue. We want to thank everyone who sent artwork, wallpaper and other homebrew attractions – you send 'em and we'll print 'em. In the meantime, we'll be back next month with more news on POSTAL 3, the POSTAL movie, the POSTAL Babe DVD, Music to Go Postal By and another installment of the Dude's cool new comic by Steve "Postalmeister" Wik and Chris Holm (with some kibitzing from yours truly).
