From the gimp's pit - Editorial:It's POSTAL Babes & Bitches Month!By The GimpIf you ask me (not that anyone ever asks a Vasaline-smeared guy chained to a pit wearing a feces-encrusted leather body suit, choke chain and fetish mask much of anything) women are the hottest new thing in gaming. All right, Beavis & Butthead, enough with the wisecracks. I'm talking about the growing presence of females on the gaming scene, especially since the ascent of online play. In the 80s, women comprised approximately 2% of the game market. Today, the gender split (it's like a banana split except for you, Wayne Bobbitt) is astonishingly close to half and half. You even see hot looking women at game conventions who aren't being paid to be there. And certainly the LAN explosion has introduced a social motif that never existed in the previously-cloistered world of male adolescent one-handed solo gaming. Just last week, Entertainment Weekly ( 9/16/05 issue) ran a piece called "Lady Killers" that focused on an all-female, three-year old XBox Live team called PMS. (No, I don't mean they're a team of three-year old females, dumbass.) The article touched on the growth of the female market and the popularity of games such as The Sims, but its primary focus was on women in the online gaming subculture. The spin was that when the women of the Lady Killers first tentatively signed on solo as members of the XBox Live community, they were virtually forced to band together in order to fend off the misogynistic hoards of pimple-faced beta-males who proved extremely territorial when it came to "girls" invading what they assumed was their turf. It should come as no surprise, therefore, that when a group of females joined the frag-mad minions of POSTAL2 online action junkies, they would also band together, but not as scared hausfraus, seeking protection in numbers. No, the Bitches With Attitude, as the team calls itself, is here to kick ass and chew bubble gum. -And they have no problem multitasking. (Ha! I bet you lamers thought I was gonna say: "...and they're all out of bubble gum", didn't ya?) So check out the special section on the BWA in Postal Nation along with this month's POSTAL Babe Jessyka, who was photographed by The Desi-nator himself! (But only because my hand was too slippery to hold the Poloroid.) It made me all soggy and tingly to see that girl handle a shovel! So fans of the female form, rejoice -- click on our stories and you gots no choice! See y'all again next month, my numb-from-the-neck-down Million Dollar Postal Babies! --The Gimp |
